Acupuncture Point Injection

Acupuncture Point Injection is here! Keep reading to learn about this exciting modality that is a synergistic combination of both acupuncture and targeted injection therapy.

What Is Acupuncture Point Injection?

In acupuncture point injection therapy (APIT), a small needle is inserted into an acupuncture point, and a medication or therapeutic substance is injected into the point.

The choice of substances can vary and may include vitamins, ultra-high dilution remedies, herbal extracts, saline solution, or low-dose pharmaceutical drugs. The specific substance used depends on the condition being treated and the desired therapeutic effect.

Simply put, APIT utilizes Chinese Medicine's meridian system by stimulating acupuncture points with the injection of small amounts of medicinal/botanical substances therefore obtaining a dual effect of acu-point stimulation and the pharmacological effect of the substance injected.

What Are Advantages of APIT?

APIT integrates principles of acupuncture as an energetic medicine with modern injection therapy. APIT been used as part of Chinese Medicine since the 1950’s and combines the benefits of acupuncture with the injected substance into a single treatment. Advantages of APIT include:

  •  A total-body approach to care

  • Synergistic augmentation combining the mechanism of acupuncture point stimulation and the substance injected

  • Lasting effect of acu-point stimulation

  • Delivery of medication to a targeted area

  • Rapid initial effect and dose reduction compared with other modes of administration

  • Provides a safe and effective alternative to other types of injection therapies including cortisone shots

How Does APIT Treat Pain?

Many patients have muscle spasms, low back pain, sciatica, disc problems, muscle tension tension discomfort, joint strains/sprains, plantar fasciitis and other pain symptoms due to car accidents, sports injuries, falls, repetitive motion overuse, and fibromyalgia.

By utilizing injections of ultra-high dilution medications into the muscles (trigger point injections) or under the skin (therapeutic subcutaneous injections) there is a rapid reversal of pain (usually within 3 sessions).

AIT is especially useful when massage, chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, and/or prescription drugs have not provided satisfactory results.
